Type of hob for island unit???

Hi, I am after recommendations for a hob for our large island we will be having in our open plan kitchen extension. At the moment I have a lovely big range in the kitchen with an eight ring gas hob. I really love gas as opposed to electric because of the ability to vary the heat quickly and the power of the gas burner for woks etc. However, I also really like the look of induction hobs and the clean lines and the ability to clean it easily compared to a gas burner!

I know nothing about induction hobs.

I would be after probably five rings. What do you reckon???

can you not keep the range and fit it into the island?

Otherwise I'd say induction as it will be sleeker and flush on top - will your pans work?

No, however much I like the range we are going to have oven in tall units behind the island. I like the clean lines of the induction but it will mean new pans I guess!! Can you control the heat on an induction like gas?

Can prob control the induction on par or more so.
we have one, but dh does most the cooking, I don't use it much.
can boil water quicker than the kettle, but there quite powerful and need there own power source
Even ceramic/glass can be controlled rather easy

I changed from gas job to induction just before Xmas and I love it. Even more controllable than gas IMO and cleaning is just a wipe over Grin I would say particularly in an island where it will be very visible induction would be perfect - we didn't have to change pans (just lucky to have suitable ones already) but we did buy an induction friendly flat bottomed wok. Or perhaps a gas HOB Blush

We had a range with five rings and have new kitchen with island incorporating glass Seimens hob (gas) with four rings and big wok burner. The base is glass and the rings are that metal stuff.

I like it so for. The glass is hard to keep clean but so was stainless steel!
