Ikea expedit help please!

Hi, has anyone put together the Ikea Expedit bookshelves? If so can you tell me if the top part of the frame screws in from the TOP or from the SIDE?

Reason being is that 185cm high will leave virtually no room for us to get a screwdriver in if they screw in from the top. From the side will be fine.

Please tell me it's from the side so I can have my super dooper bookshelves all across one wall Grin

I know they do a smaller one but I wanted floor to ceiling!

I have the 5 x 5 Expedit and it screws in at the top. You do have to build it on it's side though, so it's floor-space you have to worry about when you're building it rather than ceiling height.

You need to build it lying flat on the floor, as Frances says. It doesn't just screw in from the top, it screws in from the bottom too. It is utterly a pita and then weighs a ton to lift it off the floor but it is worth it!

Thanks everyone. It will be a royal PITA I know. The room is a converted garage (soon to be study hopefully) so the ceiling is lower than the norm and there isn't a lot of floor space either :(

There's the option of the 4 shelf one but it won't look as good and I wanted the bookshelves to dominate the entire wall.

Ok, are there any other companies I could look at? Similar but a tad shorter? Budget is slim Grin

Mine is in our playroom, it is about 3 inches off the low ceiling. I could build it and move into place with no issues.

In fact, I bought it before we moved in and turns out it was about 2 inches too long and fouled the doorway. I sawed off one row of shelves and now have a 5 x 4 unit. Was easy!

Get the measurements online and mark it out on your floor.

The ceilng height is 195cm (expedit 5 shelf 185cm)

Good idea to mark out the floor first Grin
