Hi, I would be grateful of any advice - one of the expelair's in our flat is carrying on going despite the light switch that usually controls it being switched off. There is no obvious button or control mechanism on it. The room used to be a bathroom but is now dressing room / storage, so we could live without the expelair for a day or two, but not sure we or neighbours can live with the neverending noise, so I would like to get it to stop. thank you

if it comes on with the light, and continues on for X minutes (always X) after the light has been switched off, it is probably a timed overrun fan, as required in bathrooms.

A person who is competent at electrical work can remove the PL connection and just use the SL wire. The PL wire should be removed and sleeved at both ends.

If you are engaging an electrician, ask him which self-certification scheme he is in, and how long he has been a member. Be alert for evasiveness and excuses.

thank you. It was simply not stopping at all - so we took the lightbulb out, which solved the running fan problem but left the room in darkness. The electrician I normally use came out today and checked the connections. I gave him a different bulb and all seems ok now. He didn't charge me, so I was happy with with outcome
