Peeling paint in kitchen - only recentlydecorated

We painted our kitchen at the end of last summer and now in 2 or 3 places (near boiler and above dishwasher) it is peeling and right down to the plaster. Have we just used cheap emulsion and would be better re painting with kitchen emulsion or can we just rub it down and try again ???? How do I go about preparing the bits where its down to bare plaster ? Any tips gratefully received !

did you put a primer on first? You need to put something on raw plaster before you paint over it I think

Usually it's lack of ventilation/ condensation - steamy dishwasher maybe?

PattiMayor we didnt need primer as wall was already emulsioned but now wondering if need to use primer when we rub it down to repaint ?

NickNacks - definitely think that condensation involved but previous paint was ok and hadn't peeled ???

if it was a kitchen and you emulsioned over old paint, I will guess either you did not clean it thoroughly enough, and the greasy film of dirt prevented the new paint sticking; or else it was previously a silk or glossy finish, and the new paint did not stick; or there were traces of wallpaper paste or glue on the wall that prevented the paint from touching it..

If the kitchen is damp and you don't use the extractor enough, condensation will not help emulsion paint.

If the house is over 50 years old it might be something else.

Did you use special kitchen paint? You really need to because it's got some special stuff in it that means it can cope with the heat and condensation

was the paint on fresh plaster watered down to absorb 1st?
if not the peel could be because of that, but still because of the areas it happening get yourself an anti damp paint/sealer sand down the edges where is peeled, put that on.
after the 24hrs to dry apply another coat (best be sure)
Get some skim over/finishing plaster. smooth this over the area or will have a difference in height. eg a lip where its come off. let dry, then sand down smooth
Then paint it with your room colour at least 2 times, then you will have to re-paint the whole wall so you don't have any dry lines or you will end up with 2 different tonnes of the same colour.
