Painting a Playhouse - What to use?

pixipie151 · 14/03/2012 16:03

I've just bought a playhouse and paint that comes with it for sheds etc. However, we've done 5 coats and the paint is barely touching the wood, it still looks chalky and thin. The cream paint for the trim is just sinking into the wood and dissapearing. Its for my dd's birthday tomorrow. I've phoned the company, they said 2-3 coats should do and asked if we could send photos.

What can I use? I want it painted a duck egg colour with cream trim a la Grandpa in my Pocket.

Grateful for any help x

OOh my next door neighbour did those exact colours on hers last year and I think it was ronseal (I'll text her in a tic to double check). One coat covered it really well. They have a lovely range of colours, I'm going to use that when we get ours. I shall post a link when I get a reply Smile

you want that Cuprinol Stuff - I can't remember what it's called (perhaps 'Shades') - I did ours in Willow green or something and it looks very Grandpa in My Pocket indeed!

Cuprinol.

It was cuprinol she used. Very pretty colours and covered very well. Smile

Oh and she used Country cream and seagrass as the colours.

I used yacht paint for mine, in blue and White . Gave a gloss like finish and very hardwiring. Got it from b&q.

Sounds like the wood should be primed/undercoated before painting otherwise the paint just soaks straight in.

I did DD's playhouse in Cuprinol shades, seagrass and country cream...Seems that colour conmbination is popular!!! Grin

Anyway did it a good few years ago and didn't have to prime it or anything just painted straight onto the bare wood. It goes on really easily and lasts well too.

DD's house till looks good!
