I was born and grew up in Leigh. I've name changed for this as it would out me. In the late thread about shit town centres, Leigh got a few mentions, but tell me what you want to know.

Born and bred in Leigh too, but moved to London as soon as I could after college. All my family are there so I still go back to visit and know it quite well.
Where are you moving from? and why have you chosen Leigh?

Need to commute to mcr hospital and Northwich, closer to my mums (Chorley) - is it not nice?

Leigh is a dump. Some lovely places on outskirts of Bolton and Wigan. I was born in Wigan and so know the area well. Best friend grew up in Leigh and hated it.

I wrote a really long post about the death of Leigh and why it is a depressing ghost which disappeared!

As any Estate Agent will tell you "there is no such thing as a bargain in the property market" so if its cheap its for a reason...Leigh is one of the countries cheapest places for property - Supply and demand - no one wants to live there!
Really you don't have to go far from Leigh to live in a much nicer place. maybe you should spend a day and evening there, wander around the town centre and then see how you feel?

Half my family is from Leigh and I grew up in wigan. I have worked in Leigh and lived there very briefly. It is a dump! Much nicer places not far from leigh. What's your budget?

Think you might be better on the outskirts (and not Tyldesley/Hindsford area).
In the Leigh Reporter over the last few weeks they have run an article about a no -go area, round Glebe street? and how its all gone really down hill.
Sorry residents of Leigh, but there are are some scary looking folk around there!!
(but have seen scarier people on Newport Street in Bolton)

What about westhoughton? It's close to m61 for your commute to work and not far from Chorley. There's also Ashton which is close to M6.

My I laws live not far away in Lowton and I have always liked Culcheth which is close by but in Warrington.

Noooooooooooooooooo to Westhoughton, its just awful!
Its commonly known as a bolton council overspill.
Its totally gridlocked from 7.30am to 9.30am then 4pm to 6pm.
When theres an accident on the M61 then Westhoughton grinds to a halt.
The park on Central Drive is a total no go area and blatant drug dealing goes on behind Market Street and on Wingates industrial estate.
Barclays bank gets held up at least twice a year.
Its shit!

I grew up in Wigan but worked for social services in Leigh for a few years in the 1990's. There is a lot of poverty there. Hindley fares slightly better but think I would stay in Cheshire if I were you .

Do not move to hindley! I lived there for a while. Was nice at first but has started to go downhill. Couldn't wait to move away by the end.
