Where would you live - Fleet/Farnham/Church Crookham Area

Hello everyone,

Looking for some advice here. DH has a new job in Farnham that he starts at the beginning of April. He is going first to a company flat and DD (9 years) and I will join him in the summer hols. We are currently in Scotland.

We don't know whether we will be renting or buying, but basically our two fixed points are Farnham for DH and Church Crookham for DD's school. It's probably more important to be closer to school than DH's work.

So where would you recommend? Our budget is not huge...around £300k to buy and around £1300 or so to rent.

Any help gratefully received!

Farnham is lovely but it's very expensive and you would struggle to buy a family home for £300k, Fleet has faster links to London and more reasonably priced. I'm not sure about Church Crookham. It would be worth to rent and of course secondary schools will be the main factor. Would your dd be in a feeder for a secondary school? If so I think closer to schools is better, or at least on a public transport route as by 11/12 they want to be independent.

Farnham is lovely, with some very good schools. There is also a bus to the school in Church Crookham. Fleet is nearer Church Crookham though, and cheaper. The whole area is nice: still quite green and rural, but with great links to London.

I don't think there is much between the places you mention and you can buy a decent house for that price in both Fleet and Farnham, don't know about Church Crookham. Guess you need to get a feel for the places. I personally would go for somewhere near school.

You definitely cannot buy much for 300 in Farnham.

Farnham is lovely but prices are pretty steep and the good schools are over subscribed acc to a friend who has just applied for her DD to start school in Sept. You will get more from your money in Fleet & Church Crookhan. A friend of mine lives on this development in Fleet and is very happy there and it's very familoy orientated.

family even!

IHeart, you can if you look beyond south Farnham :)

It's about the same on the rightmove website, Church Crookham seems to offer more house for your money

I know crunch, that's not where I live!

crunchbag · 08/03/2012 22:37

Me neither

But yes you are right it is expensive living around here, 300 does not get you much compared to many other areas.

Hi

It depends if you are looking for a rural lifestyle - Rowledge, Bentley, Bucks Horn Oak, Crondall (rental probably for the budget in mind)..or a town situation ie Farnham, South Farnham or Fleet.

Church Crookham is neither a village nor a town - it once was a village but has grown somewhat ...but is still nice with a racecourse (Tweseldown) and lots of point to point and cross country, walks etc.

Each area is lovely so you can't really go wrong..just decide if you want town or country, and I'd agree with other posters - to rent first, so you can change your mind once you get to know the area if you wish to.

Nearly forgot to say - at the open day last week for the independent girls school in Church Crookham they said the bus route from Rowledge village to the school was their busiest route (and not any from Fleet)..so lots of potential friends in this area if you are considering this school...
