How to make a conservatory more useable/liveable without spending £££

We've got a massive conservatory on a fairly small house and as we are desperate for more space it seems daft not to make more use of it but it suffers from the usual conservatory problem of always being either too hot or tool cold. Is there anything I could do on a pretty small budget to get round this, we really are tucked up for space and it would make such a difference if we could use this room more.

charity shop for big rugs for the floor and curtains for the windows/walls/ceiling.

Yes, the rugs etc and a heater - Argos sell them but if its a very big room you'll need the largest kw heater or two of them at each end. I had this problem at my old house and I bought a heater, one of the plug in oil ones that look like a radiator and put it on a timer switch. It will obviously cost money to heat which is really annoying in these days of massive heating bills but it'll mean you can use the room. Set the timer to match the rest of the houses heating. A rug on the floor made an amazing difference as well. I found that in summer mine was fine if I left the ceiling vents open a bit while we were out and just opened the doors when we were home.

Oil heater sounds like a good idea, think they are the most economical type of portable heater although I may be wrong. The room is carpeted and then there's a straw type rug (can't think what they are called!) over it to - hide the holes! - so not much more needed on the floor I don't think. Definitely thinking of trying to rig up some kind of curtain arrangement across the roof but not sure how successful I will be!
