Need a new bed - ideas please

Need a new bed and mattress. Haven't bought either in years. Have decided on memory foam mattress with coolmax cover. But what bed to put it on? Does it matter if slatted or divan? Have always had slatted before - any advantages to divan? Quite like the look of the upholstered ones? What else is around?

Have had a look on John Lewis, Feather and Black and The Sleep Room - nothing relaly grabbing me. Current one is old metal one from Iron Bed Company or whatever it was called (now Feather and Black I believe?)

How about Warren Evans? We needed a low bed due to it being in the loft bedroom and their frames were very reasonable and you can get it stain a whole range of colours to suit your taste. They also offer their own range of memory foam mattresses, we went for a Tempur one in the end but found that their prices were the cheapest anywhere anyway! The bed turned up when they said it would and the men built it for me exactly where I wanted it and took all the rubbish away. I absolutely recommend their service as well. PM me if you find anything you like. I have a 'recommend a friend and split £30' code if you do find something you like!

Second warren Evans - got one for DS. It's lovely!

and what about style for a master bedroom? I am looking at upholstered ones as our old one is a metal frem one and I am always banging myself and everything clatters on it! What so you think. Dont want particularly low or high.

The one I linked to is upholstered and looks very smart I think. It also looks a good height though best to measure and see how it would look in your room height wise.

hi pannacotta - yes i had already seen that JL one - excellent price! Unfortunately DP is over 6ft and insists on superking and I think that only comes in a Kingsize unfortunatley. I like the look though.

what about this one? does it seem suspiciously cheap? www.click4beds.co.uk/shop/beds/upholstered_beds/products/serene_chelsea_upholstered_bed_frame.html

Wow, that one you've linked to is a fantastic price befuzzled! and I like the way it looks.

Can't see anything obviously wrong with it... let us know if you get it, I might get one!

befuzzled · 06/03/2012 21:29

can you remember how much it was?!! link has stopped working!

I think it was £249. can't remember what size that was though, maybe Kingsize?

I think I also found it on another site for slightly more (£269 I think for King) - will see if I can find that site.

Not sure where I saw it before but here are a load of other places that sell the same bed for a similar price.

We have a sprung slat solid oak super kingside bed with a memory foam mattress and coolmax cover and I wouldn't really recommend a slatted bed with memory foam.

The mattress is very good quality, at least 25cm thick, but I'm aware of the support bar down the middle of the bed, ie the mattress gives more over the slats but not the bar. We had some pegboard cut to size (thin wooden board with small holes, thought it would be better for air circulation!) and placed under the mattress but the problem is still there.

I have read that memory foam mattresses are better on divan bases as their surface is uniform.

If we didn't have a million other things to spend money on in the house, I'd replace the bed! The mattress cost a LOT more than the bed anyway!
