Lewes, anyone?

It seems to have it all, attractive small town with lots of history and an appealing high street. A house has just come on the market that is both five minutes from the middle of town and station, whilst also being five minutes from a footpath up into the Downs. This would appear to be the best of all possible worlds, no?

But I've been told that the Lewes to London commute is far worse than the Brighton mainline, even though the published times appear ok. And I know nothing about the schools. Any thoughts or advice?

Could try posting this in the local section under Brighton as well as here - pretty sure there are discussions about the relative merits of Lewes in archive threads there too.

I think Lewes is lovely -we considered it but ended up in Brighton for various reasons. The local comp Lewes Priory seemed well run as did the sixth form college

Thanks Javo, I hadn't thought of the local threads. These are really useful!

It is a lovely town. Wasn't the best train line into London when I last visited - but that was >10 years ago. Certain areas are prone to flooding so check that out.
