Please tell me what armchairs would go with this sofa?

I'm finally taking the plunge after dreaming about a chesterfield sofa for more years than I care to remember. Going to get one in velvet, either the Grande Dame from Sofa Workshop or the Penhurst Fabric from The English Sofa Company. Either in deep grape or wine or dark grey.
Now I'm stumped about chairs to go with it. I want to have two armchairs and don't think I want a matching chesterfield suite. Anyone got any recommendations? It's a Victorian house, stripped wooden floors with a big red persian rug. Thanks!

Beautiful sofas (prefer the SW one though, seems a nicer shape). I have a grey velvet chesterfield sofa, with a modern charcoal sofa (kind of a B&B Italia style) and then I have an armchair covered in this in the dijon colourway and I have this with old gold (mustard) velvet curtains. I love it, have a bit of a grey and yellow thing going on.

So I would suggest how about an armchair in a print fabric that picks up the sofa colour? You can get a cheap armchair on ebay and have it recovered.

oooh thanks kitsmummy - I love that fabric. Might just steal your idea if that's OK?! Grey & yellow is a beautiful combination. SW are running a sale until Sunday and knocking a lot of that sofa as well as some gorgeous armchairs which you can have covered in any fabric you want. Can see some serious card flexing going on...

My friend has a purple velvet Chesterfield just like that SW one. She has teamed it with a beautiful antique wooden settle on one wall and a very plain cream two seater sofa against the other. It all looks lovely.

I think I'd put it with a pair of classic brown leather armchairs.

My Mum's just bought me an antique settle as a (very belated - 10 years ago!) wedding present:) I might try that in the room with the sofa then. Thanks rhubarb.

I have a rich blue velvet sofa with 2 antique brown leather wingbacked chairs.

how about looking for auction bargains and covering one in a plaid and the other in leather to tone with the sofa. The Isle Mill for plaid. Plaids often have a red that would pick up the Colours in the rug.
