turquoise stuff run down radiator pipe - any idea what it is?

Was just in DD's room, sat on the floor, when I noticed some turquoise stuff (like a leaky paint trail) that had run down the pipe to the floor from where the join is that you have the temperature changing knob thingy (technical term).

DH thinks it would have been the sealant that has run and isn't too worried. I'm a champion worrier - so I'm worrying about it. Any plumbing types know what this turquoise stuff may be? Thanks

It may be a copper pipe and the water that has leaked from the radiator contains some copper and it has oxidised.

definitely.

the leak will be at the joint at the top of the green trail.

you can clean it off with water and a green nylon scourer. If it comes back you will know the joint is still leaking. Best fix is to take the joint apart and remake it properly. A competent plumber can do it without draining down. Alternatively you can try various other methods to tighten it or bung it up, and then after a few years of failure, give up and get a competent plumber in. Tightening it may make it much worse if you are unlucky.

Thanks - that makes sense. Bit freaked out that it says that it's poisonous - not sure how long it's been on the pipe - hope none has got onto any of DD's stuff...

Unless your dd makes a habit of licking the radiators I really wouldn't fret Grin

I wouldn't put it past her... :o

No, just not sure if any of her toys would have touched it - she's 5 and she still puts things in her mouth! (not sure quite how toxic it is mind...)
