we have one in our garden that I woul like to have moved. Electricity company says it'll cost us a lot. Have been doing some googling and it seems it it doesnt actually supply our house they should move it for free. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this? Long shot I know!

I don't think that's true.

However, what you can do, is ask them to send you a copy of the wayleave for your actual house showing the signature and terms relating to your actual house and not just a copy of the standard terms and conditions that applied at any particular date that might not be the date yours was done.

I happen to know that most utility suppliers have actually lost these pieces of paper, or can't track down any particular document from a huge muddle, some of them going back a hundred years or more.

Hmmm.. years ago so my memory is sketchy, but I owned a plot of land that had a lecky pole on and the wires went diagonally across. As far as I can remember, they quoted me a price to move it, but when I checked legally, they should have been paying me an annual rent for having it on my land. In the end, they paid me for the right to come on my land to move their pole.

Interesting, I wasn't expecting any responses!

I will ask to see a copy of the wayleave piglet, that might be a good starting point.

Has anyone EVER managed to get a substation or power-lines moved?

We have a substation on our land and we get a £4 a year wayleave payment - this wayleave agreement is up in 2021, but I'm not aware of anyone who has ever managed to get any power equipment removed...
