How much in total did your woodburning stove cost?

We are looking at getting one in our new build and the fireplace has been prepared accordingly. Clearview stoves have been recommended by a relative but while the stove itself is only £1100, the total cost including the flue and fitting brings it up to £2400 which is quite pricey. What did others pay so I know we are not being ripped off? Plus, would you try to bargain the price down a bit?

I was quoted something similar in the summer to buy and install a stove & flue etc (no chimney)

Price depends on Size of stove; ours is only very small & only about £500 (5 yrs ago?), but we've spent £100 or so on maintenance since (plus chimney sweep £35/yr), and we didn't need any work done on the chimney.

Ours was around £3k but it is a boiler stove so included plumbing work.

I'd have a good look at stoves, if it is just because you want a stove for the occasional fire then tbh I wouldn't be too fussed about getting "the best". If you are going ot be relying on it a lot for heat then obviously it is different.

We got a Termatech stove out into our kitchen and the fitting and flue was about £1300- we were installing it straight out through the ceiling and roof and got the best quality flue and it included the marble hearth. If you have a hearth already there then I do think this is a bit pricey but probably not much.
Clearviews are very good but Indith is right if you aren't using it all the time and for your main source of heat then there are cheaper alternatives.

I have a Carron red logburner, it's more expensive being red-enamel but I love it. It cost over £500 (it's a 4.7kW,so quite small -anything bigger you will need a vent fitted in an outside wall)) but we spent another £1000 on getting a proper flue fitted, insulated and lined. The chimnney goes through my DS3's bedroom so i didn't want any fumes filtering through the old chimney bricks. We then needed slate for the hearth and tiles for the back of the fireplace - in all about £2000.

We got a small vesta stove which was £600 (would highly recommend; glass stays really clean and easy to use). Paid £200 for a made to measure granite hearth and £1050 to have it fitted (inc chimney wall knocked out and made good, flue liner, cowl etc).

It is one of my best ever purchases though, worth every penny.

albert, where did you get your stove from and who fitted it?

Flu cost more than the stove but don't scrimp on it. A friend of mine's house nearly burnt down because not all of the flu was double insulated as required. We got ours over 5 years ago, but would say the total cost was over £2k.

It has been worth it over the years though!

We got it from Stove Experience in Shotts, Lanarkshire. They fitted it themselves. I don't know if I could recommend them even if you did live in this part of the world. They were very good at the fitting and the advising but the customer service was pretty shocking as they were so busy they couldn't cope with the number of customers they were getting.

anchovies, we got a vest too, a v6, and i love it. I had bought a dovre astroline but it doesn't fit in the fireplace (oopps!) so we are going to have it fitted in the kitchen/family room and bought the vesta to replace it. I love the contemporary look and the fact that it is made in the uk :) In answer to the OP it cost about £2 in total.

Sounds about right. We've got a clearview stove (I think - it has the special self cleaning glass anyway) and the whole installation came to almost exactly £2400 iirc.

Thanks everyone for all your responses. The stove would be going into our living room which we will probably just use at the weekends so it won't be lit every day or anything but the room is pretty big so would like a stove that will heat it properly. Will need to pay for a hearth on top of that so ideally would like to get everything in at around £2400 - think my hubby is going to try to get the price down a bit!

Go to the HETAS webiste - they will advise on fitters in your area. Theyalso have a room-calculator on there, so you can work out what size logburner to get.

I thinkmost logburners now have the hot-air-wash feature - it blows the hot air overthe front glass to burn off any residue. Mine does, but i still have to clean it (once a year after we finish using it1) with damp newspaper and ashes.

We paid £3k for a lot of work on our very large inglenook. Knocking down the wall, digging out 2 tonnes of rubble, sandblasting the walls, lime mortar pointing, new damp-proof, new concrete floor, supply & fitting of stove (charnwood 8kw multi fuel).

For what we have its beautiful, fantasting & worth £3k.

interesting as I've been quoted nearly £6000 today for a woodburner. The woodburner itself is nearly £2000, plus need scaffolding up for roof £500. Obviously we will go to other places for quotes. Is it a regional thing? I'm in southeast in an area with lots of big houses - perhaps they think they can fleece people here.

We've been quoted £2k. Over £1k is the chimney/flue (4 storey house)

DH bought the Stovax stove (quite a powerful one as it has to heat the dining room and kitchen as it's all knocked through - plus we planned to extend, so the rating of stove will heat the extension too if we ever bloody get it done). He paid £500 for it on ebay - it was ex display - and had to collect. Should have been about £900 new I think.

We paid £1200 for work on the flue and chimney (the fireplace was boarded up when we bought the house). DH and FIL built the hearth, materials including tiles for that cost maybe £100? Ish.

It's been in nearly 3 years now and the decor still hasn't been finished off and it looks a mess as we removed a matchboard panel to fit it and it has never been replaced/tidied up or repainted . Tis lovely and warm though.

We paid £1000 for the stove and installation from a local independent company. That was 2 years ago and it's the best thing we've done to the house!!

How come mine is so expensive?

are you getting quotes from a big company with posh showroom etc schilke? We got quotes like that (one quoted 6!! grand for a bog standard flue and installation, not even including the stove!) when we installed a woodburner about 5 years ago. We went instead to an independent installer (still HETAS registered, not fly by night at all) and he did it all for about 1200 quid.

stove 1 was about £650 for the stove and then £800 for the installation including the liner

2nd one was £750 for the stove and £600 for the installation.
Both bought from the same company and then fitted by the same lads. THey did a wonderful job.

Yes was posh showroom. They won't even come out - do all estimates from photos. I said to dh - there is no incentive for them to make their quote cheaper as you have to agree to pay £6000 and pay 20% deposit before they even come out to your house and have a proper look.

Have found another local installer - much smaller business, but with excellent check a trade reviews and he does free site visits. Will get in touch with him tomorrow.

£2000 in total. Fantastic company in Ringmer, East Sussex. As from today, we have a stove that is just right for our sitting room (don't buy one too big for your room or you won't be able to use it!). Very much looking forward to using it once the cement has dried on the surround. We might have been able to do it cheaper, but, to be honest, it was worth every penny to have a company do the whole thing for us.
