Relocating to Lullington

I'm hoping to move to Lullington (South derbyshire) end of March (if we survive precarious journey of selling and buying) with hubby, dog and 8 month old son. Very excited as this will be our forever home but don't know anyone and know very little about the surrounding areas. The vendor of house we're buying directs all our local needs to Coton-in-the-Elms, chip shop, convenience store etc Anyone got their own recommendations on the area? What about childminders and nursery schools - any experiences or recommendations. My little boy will be one in June and he'll be going into nursery then as I'm back to work but prior to going back I'm keen to keep attending local playgroups etc Both hubby and I are very easy going friendly people so hopefully we'll fit in but still nervous as everything will be new and different. Really excited to learn about where we're going to live.

All info very welcome.

Hi Poppy, we used to live in Netherseal so not too far away :) We are still local - S Derbys/Leics border...

Coton has a fairly new Children's Centre (next door to the primary school, which is v good btw!) so you should find info about playgroups etc there.

There are loads of lovely outdoors places to go - Rosliston Forestry Centre is fab and has free entry (just parking charge), Conkers is nearby and you get cheaper annual membership as Lullington is within the National Forest.

Welcome :)

Thanks, the Conkers membership rate is good to know. Had a look at their website and it looked a bit pricey to pop in as a regular but certainly consider it now. Likewise with Children's Centre. I'm hoping to visit a couple of nurseries this week so will pop in on my way. Will also have sneaky drive past new house :o)

I used to live in Overseal and in Coton Park, lovely part of the world.

Would second the Rosliston forestry centre recommendation - we go for walks there and play in the amazing playground even though we are adults Grin

The fish and chip shop in Linton does the best chips in the known universe (now also a Chinese but this still stands!)

There's a little Co-op in Overseal, and a huge Sainsbos in Swadlincote, in fact there's probably every supermarket you could ever think of in Swad! It's not the nicest town but it has its moments. Burton is a rather grey town too but has lots of good shops (sorry no idea if you know the area well or not, so just spouting all I know!)

If your new house needs a fence, may I just cheekily recommend www.grangewoodfencing.com as it is run by a relative Grin and is just down the road from Lullington, in Grangewood (well, obviously).

Coton in the Elms also has the amazing "Ducks crossing" sign that I loved when I was little!

Thanks Anna, I have no knowledge of these areas other than names and occasionally driving through them for a look around. I'll keep my eye out for the 'ducks crossing' sign...sounds very cute. Thanks for all the info, can'y wait to move, sounds like we're going to love it - if not already!

Thanks for the info. I contacted Conkers for their local rate and it's very reasonable and def worth it. Drove up to Coton today and visited the Surestart Centre, Chapmans Garden Centre in Rolistan (for coffee and cake) and had a peak at The Forestry Centre. Got to chat to a few locals too, it's been a lovely day and found a bit more out about Lullington. Just put a call out on Freecycle for boxes. Can't wait to start packing :O)
