Expedit, how do you use yours?

I need to get our clutter under control and have decided to get a couple of Expedit units from IKEA.

One will go in our sitting room, which is also a playroom, and the other will go in the DSs room. We'll use them to store toys and books and pens/paper etc.

I do not have a natural gift for tidiness or storage soloutions, so would be very grateful for some advice on what works for you in terms of baskets/draweers/doors/inserts etc etc.

I love the pics in this link but dont think I will ever manage that level of organisation...

Dss are 7 and 4 btw, and like lego, books, stationery and are generally very messy!

We use ours in the office - files and fabric books. I hold fabric samples in the small baskets ikea do, which are each half the size of one aperture so I can fit two baskets per aperture. I think they were called branas? Haven't used the doors or drawers, I thought it would be easier just to put things either in baskets or straight on the shelves, but if I was storing lego etc, I'd put them in the baskets/boxes from ikea.

We use ours in the play room. It's full of clear boxes on top with craft materials, felts, crayons, paper etc. from the second shelf down we just put toys in to make it look more organised than it really is.

We used to have it in the living room full of ornaments, books, CD's and DVD's

Thanks.
Cant buy the Branas baskets on-line which is a pain so will have to go for other options.

We have a 5 x 5 with 5 white door inserts and 5 green door inserts, 5 branas boxes and 5 lekman boxes. Still have a garage and treehouse and drum on top. Like the subdivision into 'like' toys that this allows. Was all on Billy bookshelves before. Also don't have to look at it all so doesn't seem as messy.

We have 4x4 and 2x2 Expedit units and have the Drona boxes along the bottom. The boxes are really cheap but fully fill the holes so you can stuff them to bursting and once they're slotted in they look quite neat & tidy. We also have several doors and a drawer too.

Ours is in the lounge and has books/DVDs on it, but also has the PS3 hidden behind a door so DD doesn't use it. The doors are quite good and you can screw them into the unit so they don't slide in/out. That meant we didn't put the back on so we can thread cables in.

Thanks, its good to hear that the doors/drawers work well in a living room setting.

Am bit annnoyed that I cant get the Drona boxes on-line either as they are dirt cheap and would be perfect for the DSs room.
Cant face a trip to IKEA though...
