Help - cream blinds, white woodwork

Hi,

I am an idiot.

We had oatmeal coloured roman blinds put up last summer in our bedroom. This week we had it all painted. The walls are pale blue and all the woodwork is now white (used to be oatmeal). The blinds now look awful. They look sort of dirty. They were quite expensive, so cannot remove. I was going to put curtains over the blinds anyway. So, what type of curtains could I get? If I get blue and white will it still look awful? Shall I go for completely crazy colour, orange or something? Please help, I am useless and interior design and feel a bit lost.

REally sorry that I am going to be no help what so ever because I am also useless but we are having oatmeal coloured blinds fitted to all the bedroom next month and I planned on painiting walls etc white....

should I match the walls to the blinds instead?

I really didnt think it would look as weird as it does, but it looks terrible. Having looked again just now it might be that I have the third colour in there as well and it might not be the white/oatmeal bit that it the problem. Its a fairly common combo (white / oatmeal), so youd think it would be ok. Maybe look on rightmove? I really am cluless. Sorry.

Close your eyes for a few weeks and you may find it looks OK. You've got used to the old paint colour.

Anyway, don't worry, if you used a modern low-VOC oil paint, the white will soon go yellow.

I think neutral with white looks elegant and have often done it. You need to get used to it first i think.

I had cream blinds and white woodwork in a previous flat and it was fine. I don't really see white woodwork as a "colour" iyswim, I think of it more as just background.

I think if you have blue or ideally blue and oatmeal (but not blue and white) curtains over the blinds that will improve it anyway. it will make it less "three random colours put together" and more "chosen colour scheme" if you see what I mean. Even better if you can put some blue and oatmeal cushions around the place too.

How about blue curtains with an edging in the oatmeal fabric you used for the blinds?

Thanks for the responses. Possibly could be that I am not used to it. The paint has really changed tone over today (I've been in bed all day recovering from flu) and it looks really different to yesterday, so maybe the blinds will grow on me.

Remember that the paint can take area days to dry properly... Also agree with using a statement colour that goes with White and oatmeal, this will move your eyes away from the blind....it will work!
