on our bedroom door

Can I use olive oil or would that be ridiculous?

WD40 is what you need. Olive oil would be messy.

just a very tiny amount. use a small paintbrush. WD40, or thin oil like sewing machine oil or 3-in-1 kind of thing.

Olive oil goes hard as it dries and oxidises.

If the hinges are squeaking then (unless for some reason they have gone rusty) the door is not hung correctly.

thanks both

the door has been there for about 180 years, it's quite likely it wasn't hung by a professional Grin

i shall have to buy something then, was hoping to improvise
