White floorboards, what rug would look good?

Would love your expert advice. Our living room looks something like this (not our room, but the style, sofa and floorboards are similar)

www.google.co.uk/search?q=white+pated+floorboards&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari

The question is, what rug would look good. I had thought of a beige one, but seeing the photo, I think it will look dull. Also, should it be plain or striped or printed? I do like Asian colourful rugs as well, but don't know if they will go with the 'Scandinavian style' white feel.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

I would say a proper old fashioned kelim or Turkish carpet in a bright jewel shade (Ikea do nice knock offs). We saw this look in a house we viewed once and it was so beautiful it's stayed in my head ever since. The owner was a complete caaah though.

Oh, super, thanks. I saw on on Ikea online and perhaps i'll make a trip tomorrow. Thanks so much!

In our old house we had very pale cream lime washed floorboards - was beautiful - done by previous owner. we have this rug laura ashley in the burnt scienna which is not garish like in the photo but lovely mellow and antiquey looking! It's not a think pile rug though and we had to get an underlay for it.

The rest of the room wasn't modern though - think burr walnut cocktail cabinet on queen anne legs - god i miss that house- it was lovely (she says from her 1970 Barrett dwelling Sad

The anthropologie rugs are gorgeous, but the one I lime the most, Agadir is expensive! Over a thousand quid, too much to spend for the dog to lie on Smile

I think I will go for one of the two Laura Ashley ones, they are lovely and seem to be on a sale

gg I love those rugs so much I just bought a dress from the same site

cyb · 04/02/2012 20:31

They are certainly money no object rugs

Miomio · 04/02/2012 20:35

Try to see the Laura Ashley ones in the flesh - I don't think the website has the colours right. I initially bought a gold coloured one (online) and it was all wrong - went to the shop (worth calling first to check they have the ones you think you like in stock) and the rugs looked very different!

ggirl · 04/02/2012 20:36

cyb which dress did you order and why haven't I seen this site before !!
love this

cyb · 04/02/2012 20:50
