Is this a good quote for built in bookshelves?

Sorry I am starting so many Property/DIY threads at the moment - it's becoming a bit of an obsession!

We've had a a quote from a carpenter for a whole wall (2.6 wide) of built in MDF bookshelves/bookcase with cupboards underneath. The quote is £990 and we're in Surrey. Does that sound OK? We've never used a carpenter before!

TIA

I'm in Surrey and just had cabinets and shelves built in the alcoves in the front room - think we paid 1200 ish. Its a fairly tricky job painting them, you will need to a primer, undercoat (depending on paint type) and then 2 coats of paints.

We used a decorator that our lovely carpenter recommended - he charges 150 per day and would recommend him if you are interested.

You need to remove the door furniture if you have any and I think the decorator may have removed hinges?

Agree with a previous poster about filling holes, but it can sink in so will need to refill and also sand between each coat. Basically, it sounded like a lot of faffing about and didn't want to screw it up after spending $$$s

No problem - will have to wait until DH returns as he has the number on his phone. He did a really good job for us, he is quite young but he is city & guilds trained and think he is doing a lot of these types of jobs on recommendations from the carpenter.
