Any good ideas for desks/filing cabinets?

I'm looking for a couple of large desks for the office in our new house. The look I'd like is either for a sort of vintagey/industrial glass/metal desk and get separate filing cabinets, or I'm quite keen on just getting a couple of reinforced glass table tops and using some nice 2-drawer filing cabinets as 'legs'. Something like this but possibly using a variety of coloured filing cabinets. Anyone have any good recommendations for well-made filing cabinets that come in something other than hideous gunmetal grey?

You can get trestle top tables from IKEA and use them with the Alex drawers which come in wide and narrow sizes

Dont know much about vintage as that sort of thing is hard to find if you arent living in London, though from your user name you prob are!

And the Ikea drawers look great; reminds me of a similar but far more expensive system at Skandium Not sure the drawers work as filing cabinet space though - but for the price they're very tempting... am just desperate to get rid of the hideous black 4-drawer Bisley we've got at the moment... something about filing cabinets mean they tend to sit in the room like a bloody great elephant sticking out.

Looking at desks with built in filing drawers, they mostly seem to just give you one measly drawer for hanging files. So I think your best bet is to buy two two-drawer filing units and then put a table top over them, as you suggest.

There are loads of two drawer filing units out there: these guys have various colours.

Bisley Direct do the older style looking metal filing cabinets and their website even shows them with a table top on them for a desk - www.bisleydirect.co.uk/bisley-home - I've often found their cabinets cheaper online directly with them than elsewhere.

They come in lots of fabulous colours (in fact I'm looking at my bright "azure blue" coloured multidrawer right now!)
