Fireplace in a new house

I'm in the process of buying a new build house. It's 8 years old and has an electric fire with a surround which is not to my taste.

I really love the look of this fireplace but is this too traditional for a new house?

I want to decorate the rest of the house so that it reflects the fact that we're a young, modern couple. I am wondering if this fireplace will be out of keeping with the rest of the house.

Any advice on good styles, or opinions on the fireplace I've found, will be gratefully received.

Thanks

Hello I think the wood surround is a bit old fashioned, but the black internal bit looks quite cool.

I agree with isitmidnight - love the cast iron middle but not so much the wood surround. Also I would wait til you have lived in the house for a while before ordering anything if you can - so many things I thought I would buy for this house that didn't seem right once I had lived here a few months.

maybe it would work if the surround gets painted white? any opinions (as I have similar and also don't like the wood of this colour).
