Painting a back door in a rented property

I rent a three bedroom house from someone who is a family member of DH. We have lived here just under ayear and the back door (outside) is looking grotty. A wash won't do, it needs a paint.

I've painted a few walls as landlord said it's fine and to treat it as our own. We will be long term renting and hoping to buy this place in about a decade. landlord said we can rent as long as we are able.

Would I be out of line to paint the back door facing tge garden a bold shade of purple? I love the idea of brightening the garden entrance but keeping the inner side of the door white. It'd be gloss and I'd paint it back white if we left.

Also, how hard is it to get a doir from a bold cokour back to white?

It will be no problem getting the door white again at a later stage as long as you make sure that you use primer and good quality white paint. The clue is to use enough primer before you go on to gloss - you will probably need at least two coats of primer.
Purple door back door sounds lovely.
