Have ordered this sofa in a moment of madness, living room is cream, with dark wood furniture (think Laura Ashley garrett) and a dark wood floor. Also has dark brown leather sofa and small armchair. All or this furniture came from our old house, where it worked with a biscuit/red colour scheme - curtains were left behind, red velvet sofa was too big for the new house!!

Will happily paint the room but am a cream person at heart! Would like a fabric that ties in with the green, but is not too matchy, like florals but not too chintzy, and don't want anyhting too "now".

Anybody got anything similar? Am really struggling! Thank you

John Lewis Linen Rose is absolutely gorgeous. I can't see your link but it matches the colour scheme you describe.

Had curtains made up recently and they are much admired!

can't see it

just an advert for laura ashley

unsubtle

Ok so I can't find the sofa but is it in this fabric?

I think it's a lovely green.

I think you want a fabric which is mainly not green, but has a bit of that sort of green in it. Ideally some other colours too.

this fabric would go, but maybe a bit chintzy?

This is more modern, but not sure if the green is the same, you'd have to get a swatch.

Might sound like an advert for Laura Ashley but really I'm just not that adventurous in my decorating habits!

Sorry for the broken link, but yes minipie that is the fabric.

www.lauraashley.com/inspiration/gosford/icat/gosford/ This is the sofa, minipies link shows the colour!

Love the first fabric - do love that kind of thing. Second one is a bit modern for me. I do like the last two but worry it all gets too green?!

Was wondering if it would work to have another colour with the green - eg pink flowers where the green echos the sofa colour but allows the other colour for accents? This is all theoretical as I can't find such a fabric!

sixtiesqueen sorry missed your post - linen rose is lovely, but not quite right colour wise, would have worked in brilliantly with the decor in the old house though!

depending where you are in the country, Blendworth Fabrics outlet shop in Horndean in Hampshire is a good place to visit.....

Just too far north - but thank you!!! I imagine it's fab.

seems to me that this room is crying out for beautiful thick textured drapey cream curtains...what with the leather and the dark wood floor. Paint the walls the same shade of cream as the curtains. Match the curtains to the sofa using lots of cushions in shades/stripes/prints of green/cream.

Just a thought.

Have a look at the Sanderson tree poppy fabric. Tis very nice and although it looks expensive I managed to get some on eBay for £10/m instead of £40/m. One of their old designs that they updated and used in their 150th anniversary 'vintage' collection. I have it with cream and pale green in my landing which also has dark wood (my colourway has a bit of dark brown in it to link in plus cream green purple orange and reddy pink).

Sorry I'm on phone so can't do links or see the pictures on the links to see how well it goes with what you want. There are lots of other nice Sanderson ones too.

Look for other good makes on eBay too, can pick up some good bargains and skim lots of collections quickly.

motn can't do big drapey curtains as it is the smallest living room ever, with a box bay. The little sofa has been bought to sit in the bay. Am now even thinking that it will have to be blinds. Have found this fabric but am still undecided www.housedecorltd.co.uk/sanderson----aerial-fabric---damaae207-auberginelime-13804-p.asp

Tree Poppy is lovely, but I'm not altogether sure it's right for the living room, would be fab in a bedroom or dining room.

The Sanderson one I linked to I like but it's not particularly wowy! Was hoping for something a bit more special but suppose I'm too cowardly at heart!

Usual MNHQ disclaimers about other retailers apply but there is an outlet store on eBay

Are you anywhere near north London (as in near the M1)? There is a curtain fabric warehouse on Ballards Lane in Finchley which is an Aladdin's cave of fabric. Well worth a visit if you are anywhere near. They do have a website but it's best to go there as their stock changes quite quickly. www.curtainfactoryoutlet.co.uk/

lalalonglegs · 17/09/2012 18:09

I think the sofa looks 1950s-ish. I would go for a sort of Festival of Britain fabric like this from Heals.

mathanxiety · 19/09/2012 04:22

I would go with a Red/tan/cream vertical stripe, or even a neutral deep tan/cream, or another vaguely vertical pattern like this one.

Or stylised floral/crewel with a nice jewel green like Kudi, with Indus Butterfly top right in the 'you might also like' section nice too.
