Stain woodwork or paint it white?

Coming to the end of the 1st fix for our renovation/extention & now thinking about decor as the plasterer is coming in the next few weeks.

its an old white-washed cottage, huge original inglenook, oak coloured uPVC windows, blinds are also wood.

Do I paint the skirtings/doors & frames in eggshell (hate gloss) or stain them with a nice light brown stain????

White def. Agree with MrsM - very '80s

I'm swaying more to the paint. House we're now in had stained woodwork (everywhere!!) & I'd like a change!

Plus we're having laminate * maybe real oak flooring so there will be brown everywhere!

Sounds like white as a bit of a contrast would be best?

Yankeecandlequeen · 09/01/2012 17:12

Yes definatley white as I'd have too many shades of brown in the place!!!

Cheers ladies!

White will help keep the room lighter too.

What about an off-shade of white instead of brilliant white?

buy some tester pots and paint small strips of wood and see.
