Moving to Devon

The plan is to move from the Home Counties to Devon. Just curious if anyone else has done this and how it worked out? Anything I should be aware of? The other options is somewhere around Herefordshire/Shropshire. Where would you choose of these areas and why? Thanks for any pointers :-)

Hi Pony, we're still staying in Somerset as I love it! We currently have the inlaws living with us, and we need to split up before we fall out Grin

They want to move to somewhere smaller and I want to move nearer my family on the other side of Somerset.

We had a buyer, who messed us around for 6 weeks then pulled out. Before they pulled out we offered on another property that we all fell in love with, and I'm gutted that we'll probably lose it. Hence my blatant advertising on here! Perhaps I should wander over to the Horsey section on Mumsnet and start advertising on there Grin

Good luck with your sale, we've also thought about Devon as it's so beautiful but the tourists put me off - hence Somerset.

Hmm maybe I should be worried about the tourists then, do they just block the roads or is there worse I should know about!? Good luck with everything, hope you get your dream home OK!

The M5 and the A30 can be slow behind caravans on holiday weekends, but I've never known it to be horrendous. But them I am not in a really pretty bit, just a busy bit.

Hmm well nothing here has put me off anyway! I am probably favouring the South West over Shropshire, but will look at both. Thanks for all the comments :-)

if not too late - I chose north Shropshire, partly for family ties but have absolutely no regrets. Peaceful yet all amenities close at hand. Good transport links, unjammed roads. Weather maybe a degree or so cooler than the south but not always. Houses much cheaper, wages lower but all other costs lower too.

plenty of horse amenities and facilities if that's you, loads of wonderful stuff to see and do nearby.

don't tell anybody! :-)
