Am looking for suggestions, thank you MNers!

Travel-able to London (worst case scenario as a daily commute)
Near to sea
Don't mind if it's countryside or town, but would love somewhere with naice shops.

I've been to Whitstable and Hastings and quite liked them, but was only in each for a day!

Winchester?

minipie · 05/01/2012 10:28

Brighton fits your bill - but it's expensive.

I know someone who lives in Leigh-on-sea and it's lvoely there

MissHonkover · 05/01/2012 11:21

Thanks for the ideas, keep 'em coming!

I've been to Winchester, and indeed, it is lovely. I'd like to be nearer the sea if possible, I'm 5 mins walk from a beach where I am at the minute.

Brighton, sadly I don't think we could afford a nice bit.

Leigh-on-sea? Will google!

Anyone know what Rye is like to live in?

Rye is going to be a hell of a commute!!!

thisisyesterday · 05/01/2012 19:57

think you'd be far better looking at essex/kent if a daily commute is likely/possible

LaTristesse · 05/01/2012 21:03

I used to do the 90 mins commute from Hastings; bit of a killer after a while. How about Whitstable? Nice independent shops there... Or Ramsgate has a fast train link now- there's a new shopping centre round that way. Or there are some lovely villages around Ashford where there's a fast train link too (although the sea is further away). Any good?

drcrab · 05/01/2012 21:25

Canterbury is under an hour to london St p. 20 min to Whitstable. High street has big chains and independent shops. Good schools.

MissHonkover · 06/01/2012 14:25

Isn't the journey time the same from Whitstable as it is from Hastings?

So far, distance-wise Leigh on Sea is winning. Grin

What's Hove like?

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 06/01/2012 17:52

Hove is lovely, as is Brighton... .not sure there will be a great deal of difference price-wise on houses between the 2?

I think anything on the south coast will be a fairly stressful commute. I've had the misdfortune to accidentally end up on one of the commuter trains and they're just packed to buggery
it's a fairly long journey too

migratingsouth · 06/01/2012 19:37

I've also only been there for a day, but Tunbridge Wells looks really nice too - lovely shops!

We're currently considering Hastings - some useful info on the thread here.

However if we had a bit more money, I'd love to live in Lewes.

Got to go put DS to bed, I'll have a think and see if any other ideas pop up!

No idea what Rye's like to live in, but it's beautiful isn't it?!
