when should we start getting removals quotes?

Hi, we are moving soon, and hope to exchange as soon as the solicitors get back to work in the new year. I don't know whether to start calling removals companies yet or to wait until we have a definite date. I feel like we should get quotes now with a rough idea of when we'll be moving but DH disagrees and reckons we should wait. Who's right?!

I agree - get quotes now and just give them a rough date. You may find that some companies will be booked already.

Also if you go for a quick completion after exchange you may have difficulty getting a company if they haven't already been round to quote you as the timescale could be too tight.

We got quotes and then our exchange/completion got delayed so we ended up moving almost 3 months after they came round. Because I kept the removal company informed, they made sure they could fit us whenever the completion date was and the initial quote was still valid.

Thanks, will see about calling a few companies tomorrow. I just don't feel right about leaving it till the last minute. Will try and persuade DH now!
