Wall Mounted TV Brackets - any advantages / disadvantages?

I'm considering a wall mounted bracket for a 40" TV - one that comes out from the wall, and can swivel, to go in the alcove in our front room.
Will it fall off the wall? Will the weight cause the wall to collapse? Is specialist installation recommended, or will any bungler with a drill be able to do it?
Any pros and cons based on the experience of MN-ers gratefully received.

What kind of wall are you thinking of? Is it a solid brick or breeze block wall (usually the exterior walls of the house) or a plasterboard/lath and plaster wall (usually interior non load bearing walls).

I wouldn't consider it on a plasterboard/lath and plaster wall as it is very unlikely to take the weight.

We have one on breeze block wall. Paid the chaps from Sony to do it when we arranged delivery of the tv. It's a big heavy lump which you have to get level. I am glad it was done professionally.Dh and I would have taken ages and would have bungled it.

The wall is an internal shared wall in a 1920s terrace.
I think it is brick, not plasterboard, anyway.
The Guys from Sony sound like a good solution.

Can you see the bracket on the wall once the TV is pulled forwards?

Yep shared walls in terraces usually brick.

We have a TV on a bracket, you can see the bracket when the TV is pulled out if you are looking from the side or from an angle , but not if you are looking at the TV straight on, as the TV hides the bracket iyswim.

I was thinking of putting my tv on bedroom wall but i dont know what to do with my Sky box. Where would i put it?
