On a dark oak floor. Straw poll please!

Naff

gobblygook · 28/12/2011 21:10

Very naff

GeriManda · 28/12/2011 21:10

Naff. Footballers' Wives

MoreBeta · 28/12/2011 21:10

We have a hide from a Hereford bullock (cream and tan and a bit shaggy) on our dark oak floor. It looks fine and nice to walk on in bare feet too.

AwsomeMrsFox · 28/12/2011 21:11

oh nice in my book - let me know if you find a reasonably priced one

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 28/12/2011 21:25

Came on to say naff, however Morebeta's sounds possibly ok. If you are thinking of a dark brown/black and white then very naff.

LoveInASnowyClimate · 28/12/2011 21:27

Naff beyond all measure.

LoveInASnowyClimate · 28/12/2011 21:28

Bolter - ask yourself this:

"What would Nancy do?"

Grin
PurpleWithaBlueBun · 28/12/2011 21:35

Why would you want a massive chunk of dead cow on your floor anyway?

mylovelymonster · 28/12/2011 21:45

Too much like a hunting trophy for me, without the teeth & glass eyes. Much prefer soft wool.
I'd have to say naff.

TheBolter · 28/12/2011 22:11

Oh OK then. I won't get one.

I noticed that some are coming up in the IKEA sale, for an amazing price, and thought that one might look good in my sitting room. (Please note I would never normally consider Footballer's Wives chic to be anywhere near my style hence asking the MN jury for reassurance!)

P.S. LoveIn - Grin

Naff

They are in the SALE for a reason.

icapturethecastle · 28/12/2011 23:30

i don't think Nancy would approve

TheBolter · 29/12/2011 09:27

icapture - indeed Nancy probably wouldn't, in fact I think she was secure enough in her social status to not worry whether cow hides were naff in the first place and thus would have just gone ahead if she felt it would suit her flooring, naff or not. Thus Loveinacoldclimate I have failed in the 'what would Nancy do' conundrum at the first hurdle.

OP posts:
LoveInASnowyClimate · 29/12/2011 09:30

I think you're probably right, actually, if Nancy had wanted one, she wouldn't have worried about what anyone else thought (or indeed even wondered what others would think!).

But in reality, I think they're pretty grim, sorry!

LoveInASnowyClimate · 29/12/2011 09:33

PS although I think I have been put off hide in any form by the occasion a university housemate brought some sort of goat hide back from Peru which made the entire house stink of festering billy goat Grin. I suspect Ikea would not have the same effect, but I think I would still have a psychosomatic conviction that my house smelt of rotting farmyard whenever I looked at the rug...

TheBolter · 29/12/2011 13:46

Grin LoveIn. Yeah I am a bit squeamish about cowhide. But you should see my new sitting room. So dramatic and painted a fabulous shade of blue with dark wood floors. A cow hide would certainly look good in it. But it can exude an essence of naff (along with that of farm animal).

Anyway, I think this thread's cleared my dilema!

Channelling Nancy...

Zebra, yes.
Cow, no. Unless it was maybe some sort of prize cow.

I think you might be best of staying away from the idea, tbh. Both I and my best friend have reindeer rugs, and they shed horribly. I've ended up putting mine away as I couldn't take the hoovering.

TheBolter · 29/12/2011 13:51

Thanks GrendelsMum, definitely the less hoovering I have to do and the more time to mumsnet the better!

(Ponders zebra hide...)

How about a nice polar bear skin, from which you can rise elegantly in the event that you need to break the news to your father that you are marrying your uncle Grin?

Shame the reindeer sheds, that would have looked nice with that colour scheme.

TheBolter · 29/12/2011 14:13

Ha ha, yes of course! With my long languid limbs and pert button nose I will be the very image of Leopoldina played out once again upon my very own floor.

Pudden · 29/12/2011 15:21

how much are they due to go for in ikea sale then?
