Hi, we were told that we would probably be exchanging today and moving in the week beginning the 9th Jan. For whatever reason we didn't get the call to let us know that it happened today so presumably it has been postponed.

Was really just wondering whether anyone knows if it's likely to happen between xmas and new year or is everyone off duty now till the new year? We're going on holiday on the 17th jan, so it is kind of a big deal whether we are moving bofore or after, I am just a bit stressed out by the uncertainty now!

If anyone can tell me whether the estate agents and solicitors work at all before the new year that would be great, thank you!

solicitors are mostly on hols today and yesterday. I am selling a house and we were ready to exchange on Wednesday, but the buyer hasn't signed the contract and says is "too busy." I don't expect anything to happen until people drift back to work in the New Year.

luckily we have another buyer in the queue and he has confirmed he is still interested.

Thanks for your reply, although it isn't really what I wanted to hear! It is annoying to be messed around really, if they hadn't called yesterday and said we would be exchanging today I wouldn't mind half as much!

I feel for you I am also in the same boat as suppose to have completed on Dec 5th- see my post on here.
Our solicitor finished at lunch yesterday and does not reopen until Jan 5th. So we will be in limbo till the new year. Had to cancel new kitchen which was being fitted on Jan 16th.
I am not pleased with my vendor also but if you arelling how can you be "too busy" to sign the contract. It takes seconds.

I'm a lawyer and our offices shut on 23rd at lunchtime and we'll be back on Tuesday 3rd Jan.

Everything will have gone into a state of suspension for you now, OP, when you call your solicitors on 3rd Jan just say you want them to exchange asap bearing in mind your hols on 17th jan.

OK, thanks all, won't expect to hear anything before the new year. I guess I'll just get stuck into packing anyway and hope for the best!

Happy xmas everyone xx
