The fact that there are no giant plastic kids toys in it anymore Grin

...but apart from that we have a GIANT sofa that's big enough to sleep on, decent storage to hide away DVD's etc and lots of small lights.

Love: It is 35ft long and houses two huge sofas and a refectory dining table

Hate: It has no fireplace

bethelbeth · 18/12/2011 20:52

Love: Very open plan and modern with floor to ceiling windows and patio doors.
Hate : Very open plan and modern with floor to ceiling windows and patio doors.

Depends what mood I'm in Wink

I think any lounge is great so long as clutter is minimised.

LOVE - our woodburning stove.
HATE - the yorkshire stone hearth and feature wall that houses said woodburner.
LOVE - our conservatory that runs the full length of our south facing lounge.
HATE - the sliding aluminium patio doors that open up into said conservatory

HATE - the term lounge

LOVE - that my sitting room has an inglenook and woodburner

GET SLIGHTLY IRRITATED BY - the low ceiling, wonky walls and ancient leaded lights

workshy · 18/12/2011 21:15

love that it's big and square

hate that my front door opens straight into it so it can get draughty!

sat here with a blanket over my legs and another round my shoulders

Another vote for sofas! We don't bother with chairs, just have fourBlush sofas which are great for teenage sleepovers.
And a real fireplace.
And picture rails, so I can change around pictures every now and then without worrying about leaving behind nail marks.

Love my Eames (replica sadly not original) chair... and fireplace and soft snuggly rug.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 19/12/2011 22:17

I like the fact that we have no TV in our main sitting room, instead we have TWO pianos.

cece · 19/12/2011 22:24

Love picture rail, fireplace with real fire, parguet flooring with nice rug, large windows.

Hate that it is open plan to the rest of the house - sometimes I would like to close it off and be more snuggly, also lack of plugs (actually there is enough but they are badly sited).

midnightexpress · 19/12/2011 22:28

hate hate hate hate hate HATE the hideous monstrosity of a fireplace that previous owners put in. Faux-Victorian carved ghastliness.

Love the giant original shutters on the bay window and the big high ceilings and the size of the room.

EtInTerraPax · 20/12/2011 00:32

I love the light- it's North facing, but with huge bay window, that reflects the white-painted houses opposite- it has a very special quality to it.

Hate- it's not really big enough- would love to fit even 1 piano in, let alone two! Envy

We decorated over ten years ago and I told the older children that I was about to undertake a complete redo. they begged me not too as they love it so much!
I love the open fire...an antidepressant in Scotland that I am surprised to see on so many replies.

mrsravelstein · 20/12/2011 07:46

i'm just redoing our lounge.

i'm anti-sofa, as in previous houses i've had big sofas which end up with only one person sitting on them when we have people over, nobody wants to sit in a line of 4.

so this time i'm getting one 3 seater sofa (the grey chesterfield from the virgin tivo ad, it's blimmin beautiful), and 4 non matching chairs which are in a similar style. much more convivial.

miserablemum · 20/12/2011 08:34

The fact we ripped out the hideous fireplace that was out of keeping with the house and replaced it with this www.blazes.co.uk/classic-fireplaces/oslo

Love the huge bays and fabulous original cornicing. The whole reason we bought a victorian house.

recall · 20/12/2011 08:36

Love my tetrad sofas
hate the black fire place
