To help calm my nerves! After a 4 month long nightmare process wWe were expecting to exchange last Friday, completion this friday (16th). We have just heard this morning that we will now be exchanging and completing on the same day, friday. We are not really in a position to argue. There are 6 people in the chain including us. On the plus side only 3 of us have mortgages to be released on the day. Please reassure me that there is every chance that this will go smoothly Confused.

After exchange its pretty much a done deal anyway so I wouldn't worry about that. The only worry you might have is getting it all done in time re removals etc.

I have exchanged and completed on exchange day and it has been fine.

Good to know it can happen successfully. Our solicitor is not happy and is pushing for a Wednesday exchange but this looks unlikely. Will just have to carry on in good faith that all will go as planned!!

It happens. Or so I've heard.

I won't tell you my story - it'll just worry you Grin

Good luck.

We did it almost a year ago! It can be done!

eyestightshut · 12/12/2011 17:43

We completed on our sale, and exchanged and completed on our purchase all on the same day. To make it extra interesting we used two solicitors (one for the sale of our house, and a separate one for the purchase of our new house) Sale of the old house completed by about 11am, and we had exchanged and completed by 2pm on our purchase, so definitely can be done!

I'm liking these positive stories, thank-you. ur solicitors are still pshing for a Wednesday exchange but it looks unlikely.

We exchanged and completed on the same day, we were whizzing down the M5, to Dorset when we found out the house we were heading towards was ours. Xmas Smile

We've done it too. All fine. What are you worried about?

LaBellaSantaCaterinadiSiena · 12/12/2011 20:10

I've done it twice and was fine both times

morelovetogive · 12/12/2011 20:17

Worried that no one is truly committing to that date before hand therefore things could change and leave us with a removal company booked and paid for on the wrong day and all utilities changing over on wrong day etc. Also worried that the solicitor is worried!! Feeling a little more relaxed reading that others have done it successfully though!

But the same could be said of any completion date. Honestly, I understand - the whole moving thing is ridiculously stressful. The process should be completely revised! Anyway, before I go off on a rant about it, just remember the exchange is the important bit in the grand scheme of it and at least if you're completing on the same say, all the stress will be over at once!

Good luck, I'm sure it will all be fine.

cowboylover · 13/12/2011 01:16

We have done it a number of times and only recently when buying our new home I found out its more common to do it on different days for mortgages ect so be confident.

Planetoftheeggnog · 13/12/2011 04:47

Selling a house - exchange and completion on the same day, no chain, just buyers whose finance arrangements held things up.

Luckily I moved all my stuff the day before to storage so just had to clean up on the morning.

Good luck! Xmas Smile
