Probably a stupid moving/box question...

OK, hoping to move at some stage when the house sells (ha!) so looked online to order some packing boxes so I can gradually pack everything I don't need on a day to day basis. But; there are so many types of boxes! My concern was; are removal companies fussy about which boxes they will use e.g. only double- walled or with handles? Or will they happily carry anything whatever the type of packing? Any hints or tips appreciated thanks :-)

There are standard sizes for items like books to prevent overloading. Most companies supply them. Boxes you pack yourself may not be insured if they collapse.

Hmm thanks for your thoughts. Good points. I really did want to make a start now before I booked a removal company because its going to take months to pack.. complicated!

I was surprised that the packing+removal prices weren't as bad as I feared and would heartily recommend getting the professionals to pack for you if the budget will stand it, and you're not planning a major declutter at the same time (impossible with my DH).

Ah yes well that's the problem Blue; I truly cannot begin to describe how much clutter I must get rid of- the only way I can think of to make myself do it is to physically have a 'take' box and a 'junk' box and work through one room at a time. Even so, there will vast amounts of STUFF to move so I fear the worst on removals prices; though you have made me feel better! I have had a leaflet through from a family firm, so I will ring them to get a feel for prices. Thanks :-)

If you go down the de-cluttering route (all power to your elbow) you can often get moving boxes on Freecycle.
