We have a Grohe one and I love, love, love it. It must be at least 15 years old and have never had any problems with it.

JaneBirkin · 08/12/2011 17:01

Grohe and I think Hansgrohe might be the same brand? but have a superb reputation.

I'm talking taps though not showers...I imagine it's the same.

Bristan are more run of the mill stuff I think, Hudson Reed v expensive? My knowledge is gleaned from ebay Smile

bemybebe · 08/12/2011 17:04

Just please not Bristan. We tried to save money and put Bristan, now 6 years later it is all leaky and the bloody shower unit has not ever worked properly (Bristan insisted that it was!)

Just stay well away

londonlottie · 08/12/2011 18:16

Hansgrohe - excellent.

londonlottie · 08/12/2011 18:20

NB> I bought a Hansgrohe Ecostat bath/shower mixer taps plus Raindance shower head/hose/etc from Aquabrand who are Hansgrohe specialists. Found them to be the most economical (although this was 4 yrs ago)

GrendelsMum · 08/12/2011 19:11

Apparently Grohe and Hans Grohe are brothers who fell out, and Hans Grohe set up his own firm - somewhat yah boo sucks to you I'm not playing any more, etc etc . Sadly, our bathroom company haven't told us what the other Grohe brother's name is.

Anyway, we've just ordered a Raindance Eco shower from Hans Grohe, having tried it out in the in-laws new bathroom and been very impressed.

What is it with these German brothers who fall out? Aldi and Lidl, Puma and Adidas and now the Grohes!

said · 08/12/2011 19:28

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grohe He's Friedrich and was Hans' dad. Phew!

GrendelsMum · 08/12/2011 19:38

No, are Aldi and Lidl brothers too? I never knew that.

Suggestion to David Cameron: what the UK needs for manufacturing success is more brothers who fall out...

...Hang on, that would be the Millibands, wouldn't it?

GrendelsMum · 08/12/2011 19:45

No, I just checked it. Aldi was two brothers who fell out and created Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud. Lidl seems to be totally unrelated...

Bizarrely, Aldi Nord owns Trader Joe's supermarkets in the States, which feels much more upmarket and not at all cost-cutting.

Ah, but still arguing brothers though? Interesting.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 08/12/2011 21:07

We have a Hansgrohe Pharo and it's excellent. Hudson Reed is good kit too but not so expensive.

I believe Grohe is cheaper than Hansgrohe.

sixtiesqueen · 09/12/2011 01:07

I ama renovation veteran!!!

Grohe better than Hansgrohe.

Huson Reed in last house. Twas shite. Grohe in 'Forever House' - nuff said.

BTW Plumb nation have excellent Grohe prices online and good delivery.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 09/12/2011 09:02

Sixties queen how do you define better?

And Hudson Reed is good kit. We have Hudson Reed taps in our guest en suite. They are excellent: look wonderful and work just brilliantly. We've had to replace other taps in the house several times due to Limescale, but the Hudson Reed just keep going. I would buy them again.

londonlottie · 09/12/2011 09:12

I didn't choose Hansgrohe over Grohe for anything other than I preferred the design for what I wanted; seem to remember them being slicker-looking somehow.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 09/12/2011 09:14

Also, Hansgrohe kit is still made in Germany (apart from the Focus s model) whereas Grohe stuff is made in China.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 09/12/2011 09:15

Londonlottie - yes I agree. I prefer the design and feel if Hansgrohe.

PigletJohn · 09/12/2011 13:12

I have been very happy with Aqualisa showers

A UK company

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 09/12/2011 13:37

Only a man could recommend Aqualisa. They don't do a split option shower (with an overhead and a hand shower attachment) and I can't for the life of me think why not.

SeasonsGripings · 09/12/2011 16:19

We have Hansgrohe - looks good and works, I suspect there is much quality difference between the German ones.

PigletJohn · 09/12/2011 16:29

Very kind of you to say so Grin Grin

SeasonsGripings · 09/12/2011 16:33

I suspect there isn't much quality difference

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 09/12/2011 16:34

PigletJohn :)

allohora · 09/12/2011 18:37

Hansgrohe lovely. Stylish and reliable.

cece · 09/12/2011 18:41

I have an Aqualisa digital shower. It has a built in pump so nice and powerful. Also a flashing light that stops flashing when it reaches the temp you want before you get into the shower.
