What works/ doesn't work
Did you design and fit yourself?
Who did you go with?
Weve just bought a house with an empty one and are looking into fitting it out

I don't and it seems no one else does either - bad luck!

I have a dressing room which leads to the ensuite. We put it in when we had an extension. We got the wardrobes from ikea with sliding glass doors. Their range included hanging space/drawers, shoe storage etc. Also has an area for hair and makeup etc. my dh fitted it out. He is pretty useless at DIY but he did a great job.

We have one that was already built in. We have put up rails on each wall and drawers across the back. Then shoe storage across the bottom.
You can easily do it out of ikea. We weren't bothered about it looking too swish as it's only me who uses it! It's functional and an extravagance in itself.
But of course feel free to go wild should you feel the need!

They are common in Australia because of bigger houses. Ours has two rows of rails, one above the other. Make sure the lower ones can take a shirt without scraping the floor. Above there are high shelves for the winter gubbins/boxes, etc.

Ours bedroom is an attic room with a chunk of the room taken out for the en suite. This left a sort of alcove with sloping ceiling, difficult to put conventional wardrobe in. So we got doors put across and fitted inside the alcove with shelves and rails on each side. On my side I have a high rail for tops, low rail for trousers, high rail for full length dresses and coats, shelves for shoes and shelves at the top for bags. It's perfect.

I have one which we had built last year when we had an extension. I got the chippie to shelve it out in mdf. I am a bit OCD to be honest. I gave him detailed drawings which I worked out from measuring the height of my shoes!!!!! It is fabulous though and I love the fact that all the "crap" is in the wardrobe and our bedroom is lovely and clear and neat.

Thanks 4 the replies- I'm thinking of measuring up and getting ikea innards to get it sorted!

Look at the stolmen range in ikea, we have it our dressing room and have found it brilliant. I also have the storage mirror that I would highly recommend www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40179939/
