Recovering from a house fire- any experiences?

We had a fire on Saturday night. It started with a faulty electrical item in the kitchen. The kitchen units, ceiling a white goods are badly affected. Smoke damage is terrible in the living room. The rest of the house isn't too badly affected - I at least had the thought to pull the living room door closed - the kitchen is through the living room.
We got out ok just me, DH and the hamster at the moment and are fully insured.
I just wonders if anyone had been through this? Could talk t me about time scales I know we're looking at well past Christmas and could offer some comfort that it'll all be ok in the end? That my home will be nicer than it even was before?

No advice here but just wanted to offer my sympathy.
What a horrible thing to have to go through.
Is it habitable with the smoke damage?
just a thought that prehaps the Ins co need to rehome you whilst the work is carried out? Our old house flooded in 2000 just after we sold it and the family were rehomed for 6mths in an executive 5bed(much bigger than the flooded house!) whilst the damage was put right.
Good luck

Thanks. The house is uninhabitable. The kitchen is unusable and the living room is extensively smoke damaged. We were told not to go back in until it's all assessed etc but warned its likely to a couple of months. We're at my Dad's for now but yes we may go into rented while the work is done. The hardest thing is we've been there two years and done loads of work - full require, decorated the living room, our room, had a new boiler fitted and a new kitchen was fitted in May :( I am really hoping we can replace the kitchen like for like. Thanks for posting :)
