any tips on sound-proofing in flats

We live in a flat in a converted pub.There are many nice things about our flats but not the quality of soundproofing. I want to move our 18 month old DD out of our bedroom (YES!) and into her own room, which is under the bedroom of our upstairs neighbour, without making their life a misery when DD does her trademark shouty thing during the night. A very quick google suggested there are firms that specialise in soundproofing but equally I have a decorator I trust and wondered if this was a job he could do - obviously I will ask him, but any hints, pitfalls etc that others have encountered would be great.

you need to google it. There is no cheap solution that I know. most involvecreating an air gap between you and the neighbour and that usually involves a bit of timber and some more plasterboard, sometimes with fancy fittings to dampen it the noise where the timbers meet the old ceiling. I don't think you can decorates your way out of this. You might want to check with your local builidng control dept that the flat is properly fireproofed from your neighbour. It should be if it was done properly.
