Smoke alarm is beeping -how do I stop it?

we have a Radio Link alarm which is mains powered with a battery back up. It keeps giving one beep every 40 seconds which is the sign it needs a new battery, so I have replaced the battery with a fresh one.

The beeping has not stopped. I have tried 3 different new batteries. I cannot call the manufacturer's tech line as they've closed for the day. The alarm is outside everyone's bedrooms. How do I stop it going off all night? Please help. I'm sleep deprived enough with a baby, without this!

Does your Fire Station have a non-emergency number? Might help. Or dismantle it. Possibly using a large mallet.

How long did you leave it for? For some ridiculous reason ours carries on beeping for a few mins after you change the battery.

Oops! Have finally solved it! The new alarm wasn't actually beeping, but the old one which had been dumped in the washing basket by dh (shame he isn't so good at getting dirty laundry in there) was. How relieved am I!

Meant to add, thank you for your advice. Feel rather sheepish now.

we have just standard alarms running on baterries and it uses to beep when baterries are getting low.
