What beasts are these? Confused What does a steam oven do? Ditto 'microwave combination grill oven'? Used to good ol'e range and similar, would I need/want/hate/love them? New house has no gas so looking for alternatives.
As always, all advice greatly appreciated!

I LOVE our microwave combination oven and grill. Its not a replacement for a proper oven, but we use ours and when it died on us after many years of work we went out and replaced it immediately.

We have an electric double oven - quite large, takes a while to heat up and is a massive faff if you just want to make cheese on toast. The microwave's grill function takes only a few minutes to heat up. Ditto for the oven, though not everything cooks as well in the microwave oven as a big oven (some things are just as good, however).

Never had a steam oven. An electric oven is just as good/better than a gas one (because when the lighter in a gas oven goes you have to lean into the damn thing with a match!) Its the hob I would miss. I would go halogen for that if you can. We had a hob like that in a rental that had no gas and it was great.

Thank you, Akandra!
Had a peep at Kuppersbusch and Miele combination ovens and apparently they do everything under SunHmm.
Like the claim that you can cook something using microwave function and then grill it to brown the top. (What though?)
Then again, have never used microwave for anything but heating things up and am doubtful if could ever learn to actually cook anything with it (without drying it to dust).
What are the things that cook just as well in microwave oven as in real oven?

Jacket potatoes are awesome in a combi oven as they get cooked through to fluffy and crispy on the outside. We also cook more than we need and then use it to reheat them later this way (we do a lot of bulk cooking).

Mac and cheese is nice with the microwave and grill, or other dishes with a crispy topping that need to be cooked through.
