Tedious (but annoying) problem to do with upvc windows

Hi, it's times like this when i feel i am just pretending to be an adult because have no idea what to do. one of our upvc window handles does not work properly. it has come loose, will no longer lock and cannot really open and shut. the screw keeps falling out and the thread will not hold it. the handle is wonky. the other ones are going the same way - wonky handles - but can be open and closed. we can leave teh window closed but occasionally it blows open!

we bought the house new 7ish years ago, so it is still under nhbc but don't think this would be included. no idea who made the windows.

who exactly could fix this and do we need a whole new window? (prays not)

If the house is only 7 years old the windows should still be under guarantee I would have thought? We got new double glazing fitted when we bought our house in 2007 and as it was installed by a FENSA regulated installer (as per building regs) we got a ten year guarantee. The relevant regs have been in force since about 2002 I think, so you should be covered.

I'd check the paperwork you got when you bought the house, there should be a FENSA guarantee with details of the installer on it somewhere in there! With any luck they can fix new handles free of charge for you!

...and if not, there are plenty of window repair companies who make a good living out of mending plastic windows. You will need to ask around to find someone local with a good reputation though. Make sure they've been in business for several years, and you have a genuine company name and a real-life local address (not just a mobile or 0870 number).

we bought the house when most on the development had long sold and the guy from david wilson homes was fairly useless and didn't give a monkeys because it wasn't 'his sale'. so i think we were short on paperwork etc, although i did store it all. i have looked through the blurb he gave us and there is no fensa stuff.
i will try ringing dwh and if not try a window repair company - i didn't know such places existed - ignorant emocion.

You could try contacting fensa directly - if a certificate was issued, they can reissue you a copy! Look here!
