Anyone ever tried to paint or dye a roller blind?

I've got plain white blackout blinds in my loft but I've just painted the walls "antique white" and the blinds now look a bit crap greenish. I was wondering if it might be possible to paint / spray / stencil / dye them to hide the fact they are two different whites - anyone ever done this and was it successful? I've got 2 JL blinds at the dormer windows and 2 Velux blinds on the other windows.

TIA.

This sounds like it's got dyi disaster written all over it a lovely idea! Apparently it can be done, here are two how-to guides:

here

and

here for the Martha Stewart version

But I am not sure this would work if you painted the whole blind though? Hopefully someone more competent will be along soon.

Wilkinsons do nice cheap blinds which may work out better when you cost in dye and it looking bit dodge!

Thank you - I've got to give it a go before just chucking the blinds but will let you know how I get on in two years' time when I finally get round to it. Grin

I've heard of people using matt emulsion, applied very thinly with a sponge or it will crack.

Never tried it myself, will be interested to hear. You might as well have a go before binning them.

PigletJohn - don't hold yer breath, I'm great at giving it the chat about this stuff, not quite so great at the actual "doing" bit!

I thought about randomly spraying a stencil or cut out shape with the blinds in situ but these replies have put me off .

Yes I tried to paint white acrylic on a white roller shade to render it more opaque. It was a catastrophy! It looked very blotchy , impossible to get it to absorbe evenly. Once in place ( ceiling / velux) it looked like it had huge waterstains!

Binned. A waste of good paint and a decent blind.

Iv’e just been asked by Mumsnet how I’d vote if there was a General Election tomorrow and I said “ unsure “ . This says it all because I’ve never been unsure in my life before .m
