I thought renting was meant to be easier!

May have to rant ...

I have new job which starts on 1st January so looking to move house to other side of the city. Settled on town just outside city where we live. Have been very cautious when looking at houses to rent as have been burned before - ie LL with agency pulled out of house move 3 days before we were due to move, house being advertised as one thing and when we moved in finding something different etc.

Anyway, viewed one and loved it, then agency rang LL who said he suddenly wouldn't take pets (have elderly cat). Missed chance on another which then came back onto market. Viewed at weekend, all fine, paid referencing fees and currently being referenced.

Agency rang DH today to say that LL has decided not to rent house at all any more.

Ahhhhhhh!!!

There are not that many houses in location we are looking in and we need to be in before christmas so I can start my new job. Thoroughly pissed off and upset now. Time is ticking away and even though they have a new one for us to see it may not be available til 1st Jan which is too late. Can't really compromise on this as I am a teacher so is more difficult to move, limited to holidays unless I want to kill myself moving at a weekend. Not doable in new job anyway as will need weekend time to work.

I know noone can help but thoroughly pissed off. Trying to think about whether to ask agency to contact other local agents and see if they have anything - have done that ourselves but might have more weight with another agent.

Grrrrrr.

Will you have to commute, then? That won't be much fun, but surely better than killing yourself with a stressful move, not to mention the risk of jumping at something unsuitable.

Ask for the bloody LL to pay back your fees! There is no guarantee the same agent will have something for you, so that will be lost money otherwise....

Sorry to hear about this hassle. Sad
