American Fridge Freezer - waste of money?

Redoing the kitchen and always wanted an american fridge freezer for size and love the idea of ice and water machine.

We've been given a plan showing a huge tall larder fridge with a smaller freezer all integrated so should be enough space for storing all the things in the fridge and freezer. It also looks very neat but obviously no ice/water fancyness!

Is an american worth the money? I worry about it being plumbed in and something going wrong then how do you fix it - water pipe will have to run all around u shaped kitchen or under floor. And the fancy digital controls.....

Tell me your thoughts please...

Well I really like them. except the whirlpool one we had that- cost ££ to repair--

the kids like the ice on tap too. Go for it.

They are brilliant. Mine's even got a 'mini bar' in the door plus the choice of ice cubed or crushed.

But DS2 and DGS1 use the water dispenser area as a car wash for dinky cars if we forget to lock it.

Go for it! hth

YES YES YES...

We have had our over two years now and the ice (crushed/cubed) and water dispenser is used on a daily basis all year round ....

I find that that the freezer space is not as good as an upright freezer as the spaces/drawers/shelves seem quite small - the ice compartment takes up quite a lot of room.

Many a time I have been hit on the head when opening the door as the contents of the top shelf have just launched themselves at me or my toes. This could be due to the fact that I just stuff food in there in freezer bags (which then freeze in odd shapes).....

......now where was that thread today that extolled the virtues of flat takeaway boxes and a freezer list.....

Also, go for a tap on your sink that has an extendable flexible hose - I love mine - you can swish out pans and a whole lot of other stuff without immersing them in the water first ...

..and remember if you have little ones choose a finish that is not high gloss / stainless steel (brushed steel is more forgiving) or glass unless you like wiping/polishing in your "spare time" forever...

The plumbing for them is quite discrete!
had o e in America and the best thing about them is the ice making facility.
The freezer is too small on the average model to eg. Put a frozen pizza into.
the larger ones are called "French Door" models where the fridge and freezer are of equal sizes.
they are obviously meant for huge American Kitchens. The summers are hotter there and fruit, veg and bread products need to be kept in the fridge, iced drinks are needed all summer.

I looooooooooooooove mine - ice and water dispenser used all the time and the fridge and freezer space is fab - I occasionally hug it I love it so much Blush
