Talk to me about interior designers...

We're about to have a very modest kitchen extension built. We've had the plans drawn up, but I need to think about decorating, curtains etc. Problem is, I'm not very good at it and don't really want to put the time into shopping around. Could I get a cheap designer to sort it out for me? Is that how they work, or do I need to spend a fortune? Any advice appreciated : )

you could try John Lewis. They have advisors who'll recommend their products, which is quite useful actually for getting ideas, blinds, curtains etc

Yes, JL will come to your place. The service costs £200 but you get it as a discount if you buy your furniture from them. I am about to use them - will report on how good they are.

We used them and thought they were pretty good. We paid the £200 and had the lady come to our house, and then got the £200 off the cost of the curtains and chairs. We bought some things through them, and some elsewhere, and it worked out nicely.

Has anyone used the Laura Ashley interior designers? Are they any good?
