Ideas needed to Xmassy up a large open plan space

I have a large cream, open plan lounge, diner, kitchen.

I haven't much bothered about decorations the past few years - but would like to do a bit of an effort tis year.

I have a large Xmas tree and decs for that - but am looking for ideas of what to wind up my cream and stainless steel banister (not tinsel that sheds everywhere) and don't think I want traditional holly/leaves type things.

Also to maybe break up the 'creamness' of the walls. And maybe some large crimson candle type things?

Any ideas?

What about something like this wall sticker for the walls?

Vinyl wall stickers are supposed to be easily removeable- though must admit I've never used them so haven't put this to the test.

For the banister, there are lots of non-tinsel-or-holly-based garlands here.

Ikea is good for red christmas candles and other red bits at non silly prices.

I am also liking some of these paper garlands. They look nice and big and chunky - which I think the room needs.
