We moved in to a rented house temporarily in Sept as our purchase fell through at the last minute. It is a small old cottage. It is obvious now that it is very very damp. The bathroom walls and ceiling are COVERED in black mould really a lot more than I have ever seen. I sprayed it with that mould stuff and it disappeared but came back in 3-4 days. There is no way they didn't know before they let it to us but I am just wondering if I should tell the agent or if this sort of thing is normal and I have to sort it myself.

Contact the agent for sure to make and make sure you note and take photos with dates if possible as you have only just want to moved in as you don't want to be blamed for it eg leaving a tumble dryer without the extractor ect

Ok thanks Am going to take pics. Interestingly I have found a dehumidifier in one of the upstairs cupboards. I brought it down and looked it up online and it is a v good one but I am not sure where to put it! But that proves they knew

Noddy - take lots of photos, put absolutly everything in writing to the agent and make sure you keep copies. You should not be blamed for this by the agent.

Make sure you mention health hazard in your letter and phone the council and ask their housing officer to come and look. If he/she deems it to be a health hazard you may be able to use that to leave the tenancy early.

There is no way they can blame me as it is on all the external walls and some internal. I have never seen this much and I have renovated a few old damp houses! Am going to take pics tomorrow and contact the council if the agent doesn't respond. I have health probs and am quite concerned about it.
