Doing up a house. Anyone else want it done, like, yesterday?

Or am I just really impatient? I know I am, we've only been here 3 1/2 weeks but already fed up of living in someone else's decorating nightmare (and that's putting it nicely, it's a bloody mess) It just doesn't feel like our house yet, even with all of our furniture in.

We have a decorator coming in Monday to do the first bedroom. It's actually making me giddy because it means we can start the next bedroom soon after.

I sooo want my nice new kitchen but as it needs a lot of work it looks like this will be last on the list while we save up the cash to do it.

Anyway, bit of a pointless thread. Guess I'll just have to get some patience.

Dp and i bought a house in october(last year) and we're still not in it! New boiler, radiators, pipes, skirtings, facings, doors, plastered top to bottom, new floored loft and ladder, insulation, cavity wall insulation, front and back door and has been painted, just a kitchen and bathroom to put in and carpets down. SOOOOOO FED UP WITH WAITING TO MOVE!!!! I'm sick of my house being a mess, paying a mortgage and a rent, rearranging furniture in my head and trying to chuck out stuff,
Rant over!
Hope you get your first room done and you'll feel like you're making a start. Is it a big house??

I know exactly what you are saying. Although 3.5 weeks is a bit soon to want it all done :) we have been here for 3 years and there is still soooo much to do. The problem is that we had no cash at all to do any work and so have spent every available penny over that time on the house. I always thought as it was my dream house that it would be enough and I would be patient, but I am the least patient person I know! I posted earlier about our 3rd floor, I want to put an ensuite up there but as there are structural issues it would take me years to save up to do it so I am tempted to just decorate it and do it straight away. Then there's the kitchen, bathroom, downstairs cloakroom.......... :)

Yes, I have been here 9 years in 5 days time. I have a tiler coming on Monday, am currently on a break from stripping the last remnants of woodchip in my bedroom and new carpet coming for living room a week tomorrow.

That still leaves shedloads of painting following a rewire this summer, shower and sink to be plumbed in, 5 new windows downstairs and the outside needing painting.

Oh yes - I understand the frustration! Because we really had to stretch ourselves to buy and then were both promptly made redundant (bloody coalition) our house has remained in the 1980s for a year longer than I had anticipated Hmm

Still, we have a good house and no doubt the rest of our lives to get it right (as long as we can pay the mortgage!)...
