landlords - what are the legal implications of letting out part of your house? we have a basement that we could let as a self contained flat but don't know what the implications will be for things like council tax. do i have to tell people, like the council?
we bought the house as a single dwelling, but if you look up the postcode there are two numbers registered for the property, 18 and 18a. I think the basement was a separate flat in the past.
also, if I do this, is it going to change what I'm allowed to do if i want to do an extension in the loft or out the back in the future? I half heard somewhere it can make a big difference
