We went on the market last week - obviously the mortgage company hold the deeds, but the EA wants a copy of the lease, and I'm guessing we'll need all the papers that the conveyancer gave us when we bought the place. It was in a green box and then a drawer for years, but when DH moved in, I had to clear the drawer for him, and so I think we moved it to the loft. But obviously the loft has been dejunked several times, and now we can't bloody find it.
I'm really panicking now - as if it wasn't bad enough that I put the wrong bloody petrol in the car yesterday, now this!!
Does anyone know whether it's possible to get a copy of all this, and if so, where would I go? To my last conveyancer (whose name I can't remember because it was ten bloody years ago)? Or are we completely fucked? (God, I hope not.) [hsad]

Don't worry! You or your Solicitor can apply to the Land Registry for an Office Copy of the Lease. It costs £ 8.

What about all the share of freehold stuff? Does the same apply? It's just I'm sure when we bought the place, my conveyancer said it was REALLY important to not lose the file - so I was (seemingly) really careful with it, but DH has gone through everywhere and we just can't find it. Sorry to be a worrywort! [hsmile]

If your house has changed hands in the last 30 years or so (varied with district) it will be on file at the land registry. That is the definitive record. You can get a paper copy if you want (so can anyone else) but like the registration document for your car, it does not matter if you lose it, just get a copy.
